Doing Authentication – Koha-US 2017

Doing Authentication – Koha-US 2017

Our 2 year saga of implementing EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) and OpenAthens with Koha didn't quite fit into the 40-minute presentation slot! Despite that, I hope there was a lot of good information packed into it and perhaps it will inspire others to take the plunge.

There are now two plugins for Koha: one that utilizes the EDS API to perform Discovery searches from within Koha and one that allows Koha to communicate with OpenAthens to authenticate access to electronic resources. While the initial stages were a little bumpy, the road is getting smoother and we're getting closer to our ultimate goals of access to all of our resources in one place, one search, with one login.

My PowerPoint presentation is embedded below. As always, please use the comments box to post your feedback and questions!

You Can Be an Open Source Library – Koha-US 2017

You Can Be an Open Source Library – Koha-US 2017

Three years of experience with open source and adopting three different open source solutions at our library, was summarized in a 45-minute presentation at the Koha-US 2017 Conference. If you haven't looked at these platforms before, take a moment to become acquainted with SubjectsPlus, Omeka, and ResourceSpace. The PowerPoint is embedded below.

There's more that I learned in implementing these three solutions than I could communicate in 45 minutes. I'm planning to write a series of posts about implementing open source to appear on this blog.
