This is the eve of my first sabbatical. While the word “sabbatical” comes from the same root as “sabbath” and means a type of rest, I have a feeling the next six months will be filled with activity. The change of pace will be a rest of sorts from the usual daily routine of library work, and I’m looking forward to having time to write and present at conferences I wouldn’t usually be able to attend.
The main writing project I will be working on is a book manuscript on Integrated Library Planning. I’m excited to announce that my proposal was accepted by ACRL Publications! It is a thrill to be working with Erin Nevius and the folks at ACRL to share this new model for planning and management with a broad audience of librarians and readers. As the manuscript takes shape over the next few months, I plan to post further reflections about planning and hope that you’ll join me for the conversation.
I am also looking forward to presenting about open source and library systems at two conferences this fall. The Koha-US 2017 Conference is hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Public Library in Idaho this August. In September, I’ll be at the Leading Edge Libraries Conference, hosted by the Florida-Caribbean Chapter of the Special Libraries Association. Both of these conferences will be an exciting opportunity to share some of what I have been doing at Lancaster Theological Seminary, and learn new things from fellow librarians that I’ve only interacted with online. If you’re planning to be at either of these conferences, I’m looking forward to meeting you and hope you’ll say hi!
